Sometimes, it seems that asking for correction is for me. How can I serve you better? Where am I slacking? Do you see any areas of sin in my life that I might be missing? Tough questions to ask.
Why is it important to ask though? We want to please our Father. We want to follow his commands.
1 Peter 1:14-16
14As obedient children, do not be conformed to the passions of your former ignorance, 15but as he who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, 16since it is written, "You shall be holy, for I am holy."
Against this desire for holiness and honoring our Father is our sinful nature.
- Our hearts our deceptive (Jeremiah 17:9).
- Sin is by nature deceitful (look at the temptation in Genesis 1, see how Satan twists the truth).
This is a scary notion. It should not be done without care and caution, but let me invite you. Invite some correction.
Some practical things: Ask someone who knows you well for one thing you can work on. Sincerely thank them, and NEVER make any objections. Just receive it. They could be wrong, but you must work to humbly receive because they probably are right. Your soul will scream out that they are fools, but just wait and pray about it and look into it. This can be a scary question to be asked as well. So take care that you ask it carefully and that you receive any feedback humbly.
